Trapped

Do you ever feel entrapped and weighed down by the system?
The idea that success comes from academic achievements forces itself upon everyone yet the odds are stacked against some from the minute they were born
Living in poverty, struggling through schools that are well below the national average and stigmatised throughout society
You want out, it’s an unfair game yet you’re consumed by it
Playing along is the only way their only chance
This vicious façade of equality
Torn apart at every stage
No amount of effort is ever enough
There is always someone ‘better’
There always will be
Do you ever feel entrapped and weighed down by social standards?
The idea that to be deemed pretty you must be super thin, wear a face full of make-up and conform to the ‘desirable’ skin colour, face shape and feature proportion
All genetically controlled yet treated like they’re within our control, beauty is defined through hair type, skin colour and size
You want out, it an unfair game, yet you’re consumed by it
Stripping us of our heritage and culture it consumes us
This awful feeling of alienation
Paranoid at every stage
No amount of effort is ever enough
There is always someone ‘better’
There always will be
Do you ever feel entrapped by your future in this ‘free’ society?
Mapped out from your first breath; you’ll start school at 3, spend at least 15 years there, maybe go onto Uni and then work for the rest of your life
One life and no real control over it- there’s a choice of subjects but ‘no-education’ isn’t an option, there’s a choice of jobs but ‘no-job’ isn’t either
You want out, it an unfair game, yet you’re consumed by it
There’s no room for rebellion or innovation
A place of dissatisfaction and labelling
Where no amount of effort is ever enough
There is always someone better
There always will be
Welcome to society
