Lost Amidst Obsession

In terms of intolerance and hate in the world, these last few weeks have been amongst the worst. The Orlando attacks and murder of Labour MP Jo Cox- less two weeks, over 50 people lost. All lost to guns. All lost to hate.
The worst part is it’s not the first time this has happened and it won’t be the last. Yet all I can think about is why? Why do people grow so infatuated with others’ lives, so consumed by their ‘wrong’ actions, beliefs or looks that they take it upon themselves to rid the world of this ‘wrong’? Why can’t people learn to accept that there will ALWAYS be someone who looks different to you or holds different beliefs to you regarding religious, political and social matters? Whatever happened to ‘live and let live’, ‘each to their own’? It seems nowadays people grow so concerned with what others are doing wrong that they lose themselves. Here is the biggest irony, the self-righteous take it upon themselves to correct the ways of the world, not through passive means but by committing murder. Surely murder is the biggest wrong of all?
Maybe it’s time for us all to take a step back from the world, take a long hard look in the mirror and try and fix our own flaws before looking to do so in others. I’m sure others see just as much ‘wrong’ in us as we do them.
